Max
5 year old
Neutered Male, 21lbs
Jack Russell Terrier Mix

Max is on trial adoption!

This cool, handsome gentleman would like nothing more than to start living life with someone as wonderful as you. He lived with another dog but they had their disagreements. Meet Max, he wants to be your main man! He is initially reserved but loves to play with plushy toys and seems to know how to retrieve. Max loves to play with his rope/ball toys and even though he hasn't learned how to share, he makes up for it with his enthusiasm. This play style supports his need to be an only dog and no dog parks. Allowing you plenty of time to dote on him. An active family will have lots of fun with this fellow and he'd enjoy the daily mental and physical exercise. Remember - "a tired dog is a happy dog". Take Max out for a walk, you will see why we think he is a keeper and would make a fine addition to your family.

Izzy
10 year old
Neutered Male, 22lbs
Terrier Mix

“Izzy is who I want to be with when I want a friendly, calm dog by my side, when I am reading or going for a walk. He's sweet and attentive, but undemanding. He's got a lot of pep." Those observations are from one of our pet pals, who has spent a lot of time with this lovable older fellow. Izzy seems like a youngster; he has plenty of bounce, spunk and fun in him. On the weekend hikes our pet pals take with shelter dogs, Izzy has no trouble keeping up with the one and two-year-old dogs. He is a combination of several smaller breed dogs who tend to live very long lives. Ten years is not very old for a small dog. Izzy needs two nice walks a day. He would appreciate going to school; contrary to popular sayings, senior dogs can learn new tricks. It helps them stay young and is a great way to bond.

Zipper
6 month old
Neutered Male, 8lbs
Mini Pinscher Mix

Zipper is an engaging little fellow. He likes people and is quite affectionate when he gets to know you. He will certainly let you know when he wants attention. It will be important to let him know there are boundaries and he can't have everything he wants when he wants it. Good leadership and structure will be important with Zipper. Without it he may try to run the household. That said, he is a happy, playful sort. He likes toys and wants to include you in his games. Zipper wants to meet every dog he sees and can be vocal until he meets them. He was good with the dogs he met here once he was introduced and may make a good second dog in the household. Zipper will need plenty of exercise. Two short walks per day will not be enough. Figure on a minimum of two 45 minute walks plus some off-leash playtime in a safe enclosed area. Zipper is a wonderful pup for an experienced adopter who is willing to set boundaries and give him the structure and leadership that will help him become a great lifelong companion.

Leon
10 month old
Neutered Male, 9lbs
Jack Russell Terrier Mix

Leon is looking for a forever home where he can feel loved and safe. He has no experience being on leash (our Pet Pals are helping him with this) and probably was not handled much in his young life. Toys and balls are a mystery to him so his new family is encouraged to teach him the joys of fetch and tug. Leon does not like to be left home alone and exhibits some separation anxiety by scratching at the door and whining. He can be reactive toward other dogs and guards his food so we recommend he be an only dog in the household. Leon is very intelligent as well as charming. He has lots of natural energy and will need a daily exercise regime. If you are up to the challenge of living with this engaging young dog then take Leon home and enjoy a lifetime of fun and companionship.

Temperance
10 month old
Spayed Female, 42lbs
American Pit Bull Mix

Temperance is essentially a little muscle made of joy and fun. She's strong, as with most of her breed, and she'll need some hard work, but basically this is a fine young lady, with the potential to mature into a well behaved adult. Temperance enjoys playing with people and toys, though she doesn't have much persistence as yet. During her "real life" test, Temperance was interested in absolutely everything, and could become frustrated if she is not taught impulse control exercises from the very beginning. She likes other dogs and children, but her overwhelming enthusiasm may be too much for kids and for some other dogs. Her play partners will need to be chosen with care - this is not a dog park dog. However, with fair and firm guidelines and lots of training, Temperance should make her new guardian very proud.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Casper
2 year old
Neutered Male, 74lbs
Pointer Mix

Casper is a big, fun loving, slobbery kisses, and roll-over for a belly scratch kind of boy! He is a young adult who still acts like a pup at times. Casper is great with people and he totally enjoys being part of the action and involved in family life. His new active household will have a good background and experience with dogs. He loves to play with other dogs and shows no sign of aggression with dogs his size; but he can be a bit overwhelming because of his size and very physical play style. His canine playmates should be carefully chosen and interaction with other dogs monitored. Casper is currently a little on the pudgy side. Fortunately, Casper loves to play! He plays ball, Frisbee, tug, and any other game you can think of as well as playing with other dogs which will help take some of the extra weight off. Casper will also enjoy walks or hikes. He has the potential to be your best friend and a great lifelong companion!

Oz
1 year old
Neutered Male, 13lbs
Jack Russell Terrier Mix

This handsome young man has embarked on a journey that would make even Dorothy take notice. He was found at the Northgate Shopping Center looking lost and forlorn. A concerned family brought him to our shelter in hopes of finding his forever home. Oz is quite the character. He prefers people over other dogs and seems unfamiliar with toys. A tug toy is another story. He 'loves' this game and will growl and be lifted off the ground trying to hang on. This focus might be a concern if you have cats. Take a moment and read about Jack Russell Terriers and Chihuahua breeds, they are bright, energetic and fun. Oz sometimes barks at strangers and seems to prefer men over women. Oz knows there is a golden path out there and wants the right family to share his journey. One that will give him the guidance and exercise he needs and has time for a good game of tug.

Mei Ling & Lo San
10 year old
Spayed Female, 14lbs
Lhasa Apso Mix

Meet sweet Mei Ling! and her brother, Lo San. This brother and sister team are very devoted to each other. They sleep together, walk together and even groom each other! We think it is only fair that they get to live out the rest of their lives together. They spent time in a loving foster home where they lived happily with other dogs and cats. Both dogs are housetrained! Foster mom says they love their walks, are excellent on leash and easy to train. They know a number of commands which are listed in the foster parent's notes. Mei Ling and Lo San met some kids and had a ball playing with them. We think they will do just fine in a home with a dog savvy family. At first Mei Ling is a bit shy about cuddling but once she knows you, she warms right up. Mei Ling and Lo San are looking for a life filled with walks, basking in the sun and hanging out with their people. If this sounds like you, ask adoptions to read foster mom's notes on these darlings.

Lo San & Mei Ling
10 year old
Neutered Male, 15lbs
Lhasa Apso Mix

Meet charming Lo San! He and his sister, Mei Ling are very devoted to each other. Foster mom says they love their walks, are excellent on leash and easy to train. Mei Ling and Lo San met some kids and had a ball playing with them. We think they will do just fine in a home with a dog savvy family. Lo San can be head shy, probably due to his limited vision. But he's navigating just fine once he learns his environment. Mei Ling and Lo San are looking for a life filled with walks, basking in the sun and hanging out with their people. If this sounds like you, ask adoptions to read foster mom's notes on these darlings.

Shiloh
1 year old
Neutered Male, 8lbs
Chihuahua Mix

Shiloh is looking for a special home where his new family can teach him how to feel more safe in the world. This little fellow, cute as a button, has never learned to feel as secure with people as he would like. He poses no threat, even when feeling threatened. But he will run from anyone's attempt to reach for him. Having lived with a bigger dog buddy before, and feeling very happy when meeting one here, Shiloh would do well in a home with another dog can help him learn to trust their humans. Won’t you help Shiloh overcome his need for flight so he can learn to enjoy some cuddling and petting? He has so much love he could once he learns to trust you.

Bessie
4 year old
Spayed Female, 25lbs
Beagle

Bessie comes to us as an unclaimed stray. She is a sweet and loving dog but needs a few minutes with new people to get acquainted. Once she is comfortable she likes nothing more than to accept attention and petting. Bessie was good with the dogs she met here but not very interested in interacting. That said, she should make a fine second dog in the household. We recommend using a harness when walking her, she seems to have a sensitive trachea and starts reverse sneezing when pressure is put on her throat. Bessie could loose a few pounds so we recommend placing her on a low calorie diet and plenty of exercise. All in all Bessie is the kind of dog who will make you the center of her life. If you are looking for a sweet loyal dog to share your life, take a look at Bessie, she may be your perfect match!

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 10 years or older

Cammy
2 year old
Spayed Female, 10lbs
Pomeranian

Cammy is looking for a new start. This beautiful and unique blue merle purebred Pomeranian is one of dozens that were living at a breeding facility. Cammy has not had a lot of interaction with people and can be a bit on the shy side. But don’t let that steer you away, once you have gained this sweet, gentle girl's trust she will curl up on your lap and take all the love you can give. Cammy's reserved nature makes her well suited to spend her life with people who can understand she needs time to warm up to new things. Cammy is comfortable around other small dogs and would make a great second dog in the home. Another calm, friendly dog in the house may help her to become more confident. Cammy is a beautiful, timid dog that needs someone with time and patience to help her come out of her shell and become the little princess she was born to be.

Einstein
1 year old
Neutered Male, 15lbs
Dachshund Mix

Einstein comes to us as an unclaimed stray. He is an energetic, inquisitive sort; like his namesake. He is not very interested in toys that don't move but loves chasing tennis balls and does a fairly consistent retrieve. This is a perfect way of giving this little guy the physical exercise he needs. Because he's bright, mental stimulation will also be important. Einstein likes people and gets along well with other dogs. Unfortunately because he is so fond of people he doesn't like being left alone. He is also more comfortable with another dog when he is left on his own. He will most likely make a great second dog. Einstein is a little tentative with invasive handling. However, once he knows you are in control he submits to it. Einstein is a really happy, cute little guy who given the right situation should make a wonderful lifelong companion!

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Parker
2 year old
Neutered Male, 31lbs
Beagle Mix

Parker seems to be a combination of Beagle and Jack Russell terrier. He was found wandering the streets of San Rafael but he hasn't been a street dog for long as attested to by his girth. Beagles tend to be highly social and enjoy the company of both dogs and people. Jack Russell terriers are adventurous and their curiosity can sometimes lead them into trouble. Parker seems to have inherited the best of both breeds. He is friendly and enjoys people, although he is not interested in other dogs. Beagles have great noses so long walks on trails, the beach, or the woods will satisfy Parker's hunting instincts. Although he did not play with toys, Parker should be encouraged to engage in regular exercise to keep him fit. Parker is still somewhat bewildered by his present situation and is looking forward to being able to settle down with a new family.
