Gracie Mae

Gracie Mae (formerly Ting Ling) has been home with us for a month now. WHAT A DOLL! She adjusted to our 3 other cats immediately and has brought back to life that "kitten" play-mode in the others. As all 4 of them race-&-chase from one end of the house to the other, it sounds like a bonsai herd of elephants!
Little Gracie purrs constantly, loves to play, loves to fetch paper balls, follows me around the house with toys in her mouth, greets us at the door like a dog, and sleeps with her arms wrapped around my neck. She shares the tall cat tree with the others where they do lots of bird & squirrel watching. She is perfect with a capital "P".
Thanks to the MHS for rescuing her, and BIG thanks to the MHS volunteer who fostered her.

Maggie & Kahlo

In 1993 my husband (then fiancée) went to the Marin Humane Society in search of a kitten for my birthday. The staff told him it isn't a good idea to get an animal as a gift unless you are certain the recipient really wants it. He was sure. I had missed having a cat during my college years and he knew I really wanted a cat. They agreed to show him the cats up for adoption. He was sure he wanted a young cat for me. There were only two younger cats available at that time--two 12 week old kittens from the same litter. The staff did not want to separate the two as they were the last of a litter that was brought in for adoption. They convinced him that two cats were better, especially if they were to be left alone for part of the day as they would keep each other company. When I came to the Humane Society a few days later I knew we would be going home with two new family members.
Our two new friends were renamed Maggie (for artist Renee Magritte) and Kahlo (after artist Frieda Kahlo). Maggie is an endearing tortoise shell and Kahlo is a sleek black kitty. They have been inseparable for the past 17 years, although they have their occasional brother-sister spats. Our friends comment on how people-oriented they are. They are always at the door to greet us when we return home and always crave attention.
Maggie and Kahlo have been through so much with us. They moved with us from our rented apartment to our first house. They endured as we brought our son home from the hospital and have watched him grow into a teenager. They bring so much to our lives. For that we are eternally grateful.
Thank you for finding the rest of our family.
