Specialty Classes

Agility for Fun 1

Graduates of FD3 or with instructor approval. Teach your dog to go through tunnels, climb obstacles, go over jumps and more! Non-aggressive, dog friendly dogs only - dogs must be at least one year old and in good health! $150 for 6 weeks.

For graduates of Agility for Fun I with Instructor approval. $150 for 6 weeks.

For graduates of Agility for Fun 2 with Instructor approval. $150 for 6 weeks.

For graduates of Agility for Fun II AND with instructor approval. $150 for a six-week series. (Outside)

Agility Run Throughs

Summer practice sessions for Intermediate and Advanced Agility for Fun-level students. These are independent practice periods using MHS equipment setups with instructor oversight. Separate pre-registration and payment of $15 fee required for each session.

Recall Madness

Have you ever called your young dog and he goes the other way? Recall, or "Come when called" training is vital to keeping your dog safe at the beach, in your yard, at the dog park or even around home. Come and enjoy some time with your dog while increasing the probability that your dog will come to you each and every time you call. Prerequisite - FD1 and dog friendly dogs. 4 week class, $100 enrollment fee.

Recall Madness for Small Dogs

Have you ever called your dog, only to be ignored? Recall, or "Come when called" training is vital to keeping your dog safe in many situations, in your yard, at the dog park, or even around home! Small dogs are quick and often don't have a lot of opportunity to practice recall. Come and enjoy some time with your dog while increasing the probability that your dog will come to you each and every time you call. For graduates of SD1 or equivalent - dog friendly dogs under 25 lbs only please.

Scenting For Fun - Small Dogs

Emphasis on fun! This class will give your dog an opportunity to work at something he "nose" how to do naturally, as well as help to build his confidence and his relationship with you. Using your dog's curiosity, desire to hunt, and his love of toys, food and exercise, you'll teach him to hunt for a specific scent in a variety of increasingly complex environments. This class is suitable for all dogs; FD1 is *not* a requirement, but your dog should be comfortable in a crate , as all dogs must be confined when not working. Classes are 1 hour. For dogs 25lbs and under. $180 for six-week series.

SHARE a Book with Your Dog

Graduates of Your Dog to SHARE. This class is designed to prepare you and your dog to be a part of the SHARE a Book Program. This unique program allows children to read to dogs as a way to improve their reading skills. The 4-week class teaches specific skills to enable your dog to not only support young readers but also be an integral part of the reading experience. Dogs must be dog & kid friendly. $90 for 4 weeks. Workshop: Agility Distance Handling

This Agility Distance Handling Workshop, taught by Jeff Lyons, focuses on building distance skills and successfully handling 3D (distance, directional and discrimination) sequences from “behind the line” and recognizing & avoiding common “traps” in distance handling. This workshop is for working teams who have been training in agility for no less than four months and are able to perform all of the agility equipment with the handler in close proximity to their dog, and for auditors of all training levels. The workshop will focus on achieving separation and learning the skills necessary to take on the required distance of typical distance courses like Jackpot, FAST, Gamblers or Chances. The fundamental tools and techniques of handling the 3Ds (distance, directional and discrimination) from behind a distance line will be introduced. Space is limited to 12 dog/handler working teams; unlimited auditors (auditors may not bring dogs). $90 for working spot; $40 for auditing spot. Workshop: Dog to Dog Aggression

This workshop will address the following issues: Why dogs become aggressive to other dogs, identifying potential problems and defusing them, what humans do wrong and behavior modification techniques. This workshop is for people only, please leave your dogs at home.

Your Dog to SHARE

Graduates of FDIII or equivalent. Think your dog would be a good Therapy dog? Would you like to share your dog with a variety of people in different settings? This class is designed to prepare you & your dog to become a SHARE animal assisted therapy team. Includes the MHS Good Citizen test.
