Fall 2010 Student Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in being part of the Marin Humane Society, and for wanting to share your time and passion towards helping animals and our community.

Please read over the details of the various opportunities to see what will work for you. We also provide assistance with school-based projects, and your class or organization can visit the humane society and receive an educational tour.

Community Service
We are very fortunate to receive many inquires about community service, and know many schools require students to complete a specific number of community service hours. We are grateful that you want your community service hours to benefit the animals.

To fulfill this requirement we encourage you to work on an independent community service project as suggested below. All our volunteer opportunities working directly at the shelter require specific training and at least a semester long commitment; these opportunities are for students who have been in our service clubs or have already completed a service project on their own.

Here are the suggested steps for completing a community service project to fulfill your school’s requirement:

Decide what you would like to do and contact us to let us know about your project (415) 506-6288.
Some examples:

  • Collect items for the shelter from our
    wish list
    .
  • Organize a small fund raising event, bake sale, car wash, etc. and use the funds to donate to a specific cause at the humane society or Sponsor a Shelter Animal.
  • You can use your donation to buy needed items for the shelter animals at our pet supply store, Animal Outfitters, when you come in for your scheduled tour.
  • Or come up with your idea!
  • Be sure to document the time you spend completing your project.
  • When it is completed call the education department (415) 506-6288 to make an appointment to bring the proceeds of your project to the shelter. At that time you will receive a tour of the shelter, many thanks and a sign off on your completed hours. You also will see firsthand how your efforts will make a difference for animals in your community.
