Marin Humane Society voted Best Humane Organization

2,500 ballots cast in the “Beast of the Bay Awards”

(NOVATO, CALIF., March 5, 2009) — The Marin Humane Society has been voted Best Humane Organization in Bay Woof newspaper’s “Beast of the Bay Awards.” Nearly 2,500 ballots were cast in 35 categories to identify the Bay Area’s best dog-friendly people and places. MHS also took runner-up honors in the category of Best Dog Training Class.

“We are thrilled to be recognized as Best Humane Organization,” said Suzanne Golt, Marin Humane Society Executive Director. “Marin County is one of the best places in the country to be a dog or cat. Along with finding homes for more than 2,800 animals yearly, MHS offers a variety of community services, including pet care assistance to low-income seniors, behavior consultations and training classes, humane education, low-cost clinics, and much more.”

MHS was also recognized in the category of Best Dog Training Class. Overseen by nationally renowned behavior expert Trish King, the Society offers more than 250 training classes each year, including sessions for senior handlers, small dogs, and difficult dogs. In addition, more than 600 dogs are seen by MHS behavior consultants annually.
