Classroom Visits
All Ages Playing it Safe with Dogs Bite Free!
Our popular dog bite prevention program can be tailored to meet the needs of any age group. The visit includes a guest appearance by a Marin Humane Society ambassador dog and a short video. Children will learn how to read basic canine body language and recognize the signals of a dog who feels threatened or is acting aggressively. They will also be reminded that dogs are truly wonderful creatures who deserve our respect and compassion. Your students will be given informative handouts to take home and discuss with their parents. (30 minutes)
Preschool and Kindergarten "The Sam Board"
This age-appropriate short program demonstrates the dangers faced by a stray animal ("Sam" the dog) and the joy that animal feels when he finds a new home with a loving family. Felt storyboard allows an interactive storytime and discussion that reminds children of the need to treat animals with kindness. (30 minutes)
Kindergarten "The Five Senses"
This program will help reinforce your lessons on The Five Senses by reminding children that animals have five senses, too! By learning how animals see, hear, smell, touch and taste things, children will begin to understand the specific needs of animals. They will also learn of the ways that humans and animals are similar and how we are different. (30 minutes)
Third-Eighth Grades "Living with Our Wild Neighbors"
The Marin Humane Society responds to hundreds of calls each year regarding sick or injured wildlife. In a 45-minute presentation at your school, our Humane Officers will teach your students how to protect the wildlife in their neighborhoods. Officers will also tell your students about some of their most interesting rescues and show them the equipment used to rescue wildlife in need of help. (45 minutes)
