Trish King
Director of Behavior & Training

Trish King is the nationally renowned director of the MHS Behavior & Training Department, which provides in-person and phone behavior consultations for the public, dog training classes (including classes for aggressive dogs), evaluations of adoption dogs and training classes for adoption dogs. Along with programs for the public, Trish King has been instrumental in implementing innovative programs to help evaluate incoming dogs and train them while they await adoption. Department staff includes more than 20 instructors and behavior consultants and at least 55 volunteer assistants.

Trish King teaches workshops and seminars on behavior, canine management, behavior assessment and handling difficult dogs. She established the Canine Behavior Academy at The Marin Humane Society for new and interested trainers, which covers training theory and techniques, handling dogs and teaching people. She is also an instructor for the Officer Training Academy at MHS. Trish was a member of the panel that developed the Delta Society’s Professional Standards for Dog Trainers: Effective, Humane Principles. She has spoken nationally at several well-known venues, including APDT, HSUS and AHA conferences.

Trish King is also the author of the popular 2004 book, Parenting Your Dog, in which she applies parenting principles to nurture canine development.

Trish King parents a formerly stray German Shepherd, one rescued Cairn Terrier, a Bull Terrier mix and one teenage daughter.
