Agility Distance Handling Workshop
With Jeff Lyons

Sunday, August 15
8:30AM – 5PM
Check-in at 8AM
This Agility Distance Handling Workshop, taught by Jeff Lyons, focuses on building distance skills and
successfully handling 3D (distance, directional and discrimination) sequences from “behind the line” and
recognizing & avoiding common “traps” in distance handling.
This workshop is for working teams who have been training in agility for no less than four months and
are able to perform all of the agility equipment with the handler in close proximity to their dog, and for
auditors of all training levels. The workshop will focus on achieving separation and learning the skills
necessary to take on the required distance of typical distance courses like Jackpot, FAST, Gamblers or
Chances. The fundamental tools and techniques of handling the 3Ds (distance, directional and discrimination)
from behind a distance line will be introduced.
Space is limited to 12 dog/handler working teams; unlimited auditors (auditors may not bring dogs). $90 for working spot; $40 for auditing spot.
Jeff is an agility judge, trainer and seasoned competitor. He has competed in CPE and mainly competes
in NADAC, where he typically works his dogs anywhere from 10-20 feet from the dog’s path, and has
successfully run whole courses at distances of greater than 70 feet from the dog’s path. He has run
Border Collies and a Jack Russell Terrier, and is familiar with handling dogs of varying sizes, running
styles and speed.

If you have an energetic dog, flyball may be the sport for you!
Flyball is an exciting sport where teams of dogs race head-to-head over four hurdles, hit a spring-loaded box
that triggers a ball to be released, catch the ball on-the-fly, and sprint back across the finish line as the next
dog passes in. Racing is timed to 100th of a second, and dogs earn points toward titles for races completed.
Flyball is open to all dogs, of all sizes, including mixed breeds. Athletic dogs, large and small, excel in the sport.
