Shelter Expansion Complete

Animals resting comfortably in new Intake Center

The Marin Humane Society welcomed its first out of town guests to the new Intake Center Tuesday afternoon.

The Intake Center will be used to accomodate the nearly 1,500 animals MHS rescues every year from overcrowded California shelters through its Pet Partnership Program (PPP). Today, with the troubled economy and foreclosures on the rise, PPP shelters need help more than ever.

Cat and Dog Intake rooms will now be used for initial processing and evaluation of animals, while separate housing areas can provide quiet, comfortable lodging and serve as a rehabilitation area for animals undergoing medical treatment. The function and flexibility of the Intake Center will allow for a much faster intake and evaluation process, and minimize the risk of disease spreading to the existing shelter population, ultimately resulting in more animals lives saved.

The DMARLOU Foundation has funded a significant part of the project, but we are seeking additional funds from the community to assist us with enhancements to the facility.

For this project, we worked with Architect Bill Kelly and Robert L. Brown Contruction.

The New Arrivals

Make Your Mark

Recent MHS campus improvements have been designed to improve the health and well-being of our animals and reflect the high level of care, function and flexibility that the Marin community expects from their animal shelter. Already cats are calmer and more comfortable when they meet people in the new Cat Adoption Center. Dogs in our Veterinary Clinic are safer and less susceptible to disease. And with the recent completion of the Intake Center, we now have more flexibility for intake, evaluation and rehabilitation of Pet Partnership Program animals.
