Marin Humane Society to Host Free Bird Care Seminar
(NOVATO, CALIF., January 1, 2009) In honor of Adopt a Rescued Bird Month, the Marin Humane Society will host a FREE Bird Basics seminar on Saturday, January 17 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. Presented by local bird rescue organization Mickaboo Cockatiel Rescue, this seminar is designed to give bird guardians, and those thinking of adding a bird to their family, the tools they need to prevent or correct behavior and health problems.
Every year, thousands of birds are relinquished to shelters when frustrated guardians discover that they don’t have the proper skills or knowledge to care for them. Highly social and intelligent, birds are still wild animals and as such, their normal behavior can make them difficult and demanding to live with. Issues like noise, biting and destructive behavior are common challenges for bird guardians.
Bird Basics will address proper avian care and diet, symptoms of illness and first aid, general husbandry, taming and training, and much more. “Mickaboo’s Bird Basics is designed for people considering adoption of a bird, and for those who currently care for a bird,” says MHS education coordinator Gail Ellis. “This information-rich seminar will help caregivers learn how to build a positive, respectful relationship with their fine-feathered friends.”
