Marin Humane Society celebrates 1st adoption of 2009!

Orange tabby named “RED” finds new home in Nicasio

(NOVATO, CALIF., January 2, 2009) — Hot on the heels of a stellar adoption year, the Marin Humane Society is ‘feline fine’ after its first adoption of 2009! A 5 year old female orange tabby named “RED” was surrendered to the Humane Society in October and until today was the longest feline resident at the shelter. Red (11 pounds and 6 ounces) was adopted at 11:30 am Friday morning to Mary Chapman of Nicasio.

“I knew that it was meant to be when Red walked right into his carrier – no prompting at all – to come home with me,” said new mom Mary. “Red will be a great addition to the family. My Aussie and Sheltie will love her!”

The Marin Humane Society placed 2,852 animals for adoption in 2008 – over 600 more pets than the previous year. “It is encouraging to see that adoption numbers are up, despite the economy,” said Catherine Tryon, adoptions supervisor for MHS. “We hope that this trend continues in 2009.”
